In 2014 Monica Abdoel launched her first book ‘Reizende Sterren’ with stories of Dutch food truck owners and their signature dishes. That turned out to be a bull’s eye: the book was not only sold out in no time, but turned out to be for many a lasting source of inspiration. And now the successful author comes with a new book that promises to be a hit again.

Firestarters of Food, Art & Music is full of the best street food recipes and sparkling and inspiring stories of food truck operators, chefs, artists and musicians worldwide.

Creative minds rock this planet. Often they know to initiate something much panache, with courage: renewal, buzz, a breath of fresh air. Monica Abdoel, who has a strong feeling for innovative trends in the world of food, art & music, went on research for this book – from the idea: where there’s smoke, there’s fire (and especially a lot of passion!). The food journalist fell into conversation with original creatives and tastemakers, went into their cross-border thinking and living and drew up their stories.  What you can expect? The rockin’ kitchen garden of Cesar Zuiderwijk (Golden Earring) comes over, just like top chef Nick Bril from The Jane Antwerp, who shines as a dj in his spare time. Henk Schiffmacher (which in the past has made tattoos for the members of the Red Hot Chili Peppers) turns out to be a lover of Burgundian food. And chef Gaggan Anand (No. 1 rated top chef in Asia) very much inspired by Kurt Cobain. Also cool to read: Marc Kulsdom of The Dutch Weed Burger Food Truck who was inspired by the underwater photography art of Dos Winkel and came to the idea for his innovative burger. In short: pioneers who have been at the beginning of something great, with an unique and innovative style in the land of food, art & music. People cooking up a storm! And according to the definition of Monica Abdoel: Firestarters par excellence!
